First Observations about Response Times and Connectivity in a Vehicles Platooning Experiment

A key question about cooperative vehicle longitudinal control is reactivity, which determines the future of road safety, and capacity. In adaptive cruise (ACC), controller adapts speed to its immediate leader’s whereas, in version (CACC), connectivity between platoon equipped vehicles reduces their response times. The USDoT Cooperative Automated Research Mobility Applications (CARMA) platform provides data for platooning experiments involving ACC CACC vehicles. We measure times (mean = 2.78 seconds) larger than human-driven cars. study inside platoons showing that not always effective.
